OBJECTIVES

The vision, mission and motto of the Institute are as follows

National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos kick-started a three-day workshop on Capacity Building for elected Chairmen, Councillors and other senior officials of the FCT Area Councils between 29th – 31st August 2016. The workshop with the theme Leadership, Policy and Strategy for Effective Governance in the Area Councils of the FCT began with the opening ceremony witnessed by many

dignitaries.

Among them are; the Acting Director General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Mr. Jonathan Mela Juma, mni, Director of Research (NIPSS), Professor Habu S. Galadima, the Institute’s Librarian Dr. Emmanuel Mamman, and the representative of the Permanent Secretary FCT, Hajiya Abdulahi Amina Abubakar (Director of Administration and Finance).

The Acting Director General, Mr. Jonathan Juma, mni, in his opening remarks said “the workshop has been packaged to build the capacity of the participants in attendance” and welcomed all dignitaries and participants present. He emphasized that the lectures will be more practical than theoretical and stressed the importance of attendance.

The representative of the Permanent Secretary of FCT, Hajiya Amina Abubakar (DAF) said “the workshop is in line with the present administration towards capacity building for personnels in leadership.” She also said “the FCT has made the area councils to be autonomous by giving them their required allocations.” She also emphasized on the importance of attendance by the participants.

Finally, the Vote of Thanks was given by the Director of Research of the National Institute, Professor Habu S. Galadima, who while welcoming all the participants to the National Institute, said “the event is not just a capacity building workshop but a medium to exchange ideas on how to transform FCT Area Councils”. He thanked Hajiya Amina Abubakar for personally attending the workshop, and thanked her and the ALGON Chairman of the FCT Area Council, Hon Joseph K. Shazin for the warm reception given to them when they went on a Study Tour to FCT a week earlier. He thanked all the newly elected Chairmen and the Councillors, elected and non-elected officials of the FCT area council for their presence.

Fifty-two participants are attending the workshop where eighteen papers are expected to be presented by experts in various areas, such as; Leadership, Policy and Strategy.
